One of the important elements of achieving disaster risk resilience is community-based knowledge. An example from Simeulue island in Aceh, Indonesia, demonstrated how oral history from the 1907 great tsunami experience that has been passed on over generations, saved lives in the event of the 2004 Indian ocean tsunami, where only 7 people died among the total 78,000 population (McAddoo, BG et.al, 2006). In the province’s capital, Banda Aceh, nearly 25% of its 260,000 population were killed.
Through the Focus Group Discussion workshop, it is expected that a network of multidisciplinary academic, practitioners and general public would be established and resulting in raised awareness that instigates effective collaboration between researchers and wider audience in DT and DRR discipline. It will also opens up discussions to seek innovative ideas for the wider adoption of digital technologies to help achieve disaster resilience in the built environment.
